Top Pick of Festive Make-up Looks

Christmas time is the perfect time of year to be more playful with your look. Party season demands creative, festive and glamorous make-up looks and is the ideal time of year to be a bit more experimental. Every year impressive make-up creations hit the press, blogs and social media sites, and many of us draw inspiration from others creative Christmas style.

I love how creative you all get with your make-up at Christmas, and so have put together my favourite 2014 make-up looks to inspire you:

1. Bronze chunky glitter & lashes

A great way to instantly inject a touch of festivity into your look is with glitter. Most versatile to use on the eyes, chunky glitter in winter shades is a great way to look glam with out too much fuss.

I love this particular look, using chunky bronze glitter and lining the eyes. Eyes look festive yet alluring, perfect for your Christmas party or for new years eye

Top tip: To make glitter more intense wet your eye shadow brush before dipping into the glitter and patting onto the lids.

2. Top & bottom glitter

As a rule of thumb, I’d say glitter sits best on the top lid, but over Christmas feel free to go OTT on glitter and line your bottom lid with it too. I love this contrasting look, using a bold colour on top and a more subtle glitter on the bottom, all topped off with false lashes for a dramatic look.

Top tip: Use an angled brush under the lid to apply glitter close to the lash line.

3. Doubling up

Typically it’s best to either go for a dramatic eye look, or lip, but not usually both. Most make-up rules can be abandoned during this time of year and for the most part anything goes. A gorgeous festive look is to go for a winged eye in a dark grey or charcoal (one with a little shimmer or glitter is great), and a berry lip.

Top tip: Because you are going for a strong eye and lip look, instead of choosing black for the eye and a deep plum for the lips, instead choose charcoal for the eyes and a lighter plum or soft magenta on the lips for a wearable look.

4. Frosted lips

Make an impact with your smile by going for a bold glitter lip look. Perfect teamed with a subtle eye look or even natural looking false lashes, a glitter lip is a great alternative to glitter shadows and is one of those looks that near enough only works at Christmas. You can play around with almost all colours of glitter, but reds and berry shades work best.

Top tip: Apply a lipstick of a similar shade to your glitter as a base, then pat on glitter using a firm brush. If you’re not quite ready to go full on with glitter try a glitter gloss instead.

Glitter, lashes, liner and shimmer are all great make-up products to easily achieve an impressive festive make-up look, I especially love glitter across the top lids with classic black winged liner. Share this with your friends and family who you know love festive looks and don’t forget to share your tips and tricks too!

Getting Creative with Glitter

The festive season screams glamour and glitter. Sequins and sparkles are on trend, as are luxe materials, golds, silvers and bronze and of course lots and lots of glitter. Take your look one step further this season by getting create with glitter, using it in your make-up look to really up the fun factor this season.

Perfect for Christmas and new year looks, glorious glitter is the ideal way to add a bit of festive fun.

Lower Lash Glitter

Typically if we’re wanting to add glitter to our look, we opt to simply apply it to our top lid. This is a great look, but it’s playing it a little safe. This year why not try a really stand out festive look, rather than a subtle look.

lower lash glitter

Try experimenting with glitter bellow the lower lash line, we love this idea of solid glitter on the top lid, fading up above and around the brow, with a dusting of glitter under the eye and on the cheek bones.

Double Up

Who said you should only apply glitter to one area of the face? Banish this idea and go for glittery eyes and lips this season to really embrace the festive look. Go for one stand out and unusual colour such as deep blue or burgundy, or stick to colours that are more typically seen on these areas for a slightly more subtle approach, such as pink on the lips and browns on the lids.

Double up glitter

Dark and Daring

When we think of glitter many of us think of a glirly, feminine and pretty look, but in fact glitter is a great to create a dark grunge look with a glamorous edge, and works to add another dimension to usually flat darker shadows.

For a super luxe grunge look try applying black or charcoal shadow to the lid and crease, and then patting on glitter in layers to build it up, adding more to the crease and applying it under the eye.

Glorious Gold

gold glitter

Gold is the ideal way to portray festive glamour, and looks great with both a red or a nude/pink lip. Rather than opting for a dusting of gold across the lid this Christmas, instead use several gold glitters to build up a textured look. Starting with fine glitter on the lid and chunkier glitter right up to the brows and in the corners of the eyes.

A varied set of quality brushes is key when it comes to applying glitter, shadow, crease and angled brushes are all essential and can all be found here.

I love getting creative with glitter around this time of year, whether you’ve got a Christmas work do to attend, a big date or the an amazing new years eve party, glitter is the ideal way to inject a little extra festive fun into your look.

5 Professional Beauty Hacks to Make You Look Gorgeous

Hacks for Beautiful Looks

When it comes to beauty, there are some fine details that make the difference between a professional look and an amateurish attempt. Mastering these key techniques can upgrade your makeup routine significantly. Our list of the 5 main pro beauty hacks can achieve that polished magazine-look you’ve always wanted. Here’s what you need to do.

5 Professional Beauty Hacks to Make You Look Gorgeous

1. Define Your Eyebrows Correctly

Your eyebrows are the pillars of your entire look, so it is crucial that you find the best shape for your specific facial features. To do this, you need to take a pencil and place it next to your nose. Place it vertically near the outer edge of your nose to determine the ideal starting point for your eyebrows.

Then, place the pencil on the angle starting from the outer edge of your nose and the outer corner of your eye to find the ideal length for your brows. These simple techniques can help you find out how to shape your eyebrows to perfection.

2. Never, Ever Skip Blending

Blending is one of the most important steps in your makeup routine because it adds an essential finishing touch to your look. In fact, it is one of the central aspects that differentiates amateur makeup from a pro’s work. Forget all about using your hands to blend in your foundation and eyeshadow.

While this might seem to be enough to the untrained eye, it is clearly insufficient for a well-polished look. A blending sponge will make a dramatic difference in your routine because it will help you blend everything together flawlessly. Try out this simple beauty hack and you will see just how much it will do for you.

3. Always Use a Makeup Primer

A primer can do wonders for your eye makeup because it will ensure that your powder eyeshadow will not be dispersed. This should be the first step for any type of eye makeup you want to use. Simply apply the creamy primer on your lid and use your finger to blend it in gently.

It will make your makeup last longer and look significantly more powerful. This is one of the simplest professional beauty hacks that every woman should know. To make sure that the product you choose is cruelty-free, you can check the official PETA cosmetics company database.

4. Apply Your Eyeliner Correctly

Getting that perfect eyeliner can seem almost impossible sometimes, but there are a few tricks that can make this challenging task so much easier. To get a slim line, you should stay as close as possible to the lash line, so keep this in mind as you begin.

Instead of starting with the inner corner of the eye, you should begin in the middle and head towards the outer corner to avoid those thick smudgy lines. Then, you should use your eyeliner to make small lines, rather than a continuous line because this will improve your precision tremendously. These insanely simple beauty hacks will revolutionise your makeup routine and you will get perfect lines every single time.

5. Get Your Lips Ready Before Applying Lipstick

The best way to avoid that awful dry cracked lipstick look, you have to get your lips properly prepared. First, you should use an exfoliating scrub to clear away any excess skin. Your lips will be perfectly smooth, which will make your lipstick last longer and look better. Mix sugar, honey, and olive oil to get a fully natural scrub.

Then, you can apply a clear lip balm to moisturise the skin. This will prepare it properly for lipstick or gloss and it will ensure that there are no cracks in your smile. These simple steps will help you get those perfect lips you’ve always wanted, so make sure you include them in your daily routine.

As you can see, a few very simple tricks can make you look absolutely stunning. Learn from the pros and upgrade your makeup technique because you will be very happy with the results. Experiment with these beauty hacks to see just how much of a difference they can make.
