Freelance Make-Up Artist Buster Knight – Profile (scroll down for the VIDEO!!!)
Tell us a little about yourself?
My name is Buster Knight, I am a freelance make up artist working mainly on red carpet/editorial and commercial projects.
Did you always want to be a makeup artist?
Since I was 18. I’ve always been interested in art and have always wanted to expand my hobbies.
What was your first makeup job?
I worked for Laura Mercier on a counter in a department store. It was such a great learning experience as it taught me so much about different skin types and tones. I loved the challenge and it made me the artist I am today.
Can you tell us about a memorable moment you had while doing makeup?
Chloe Jasmine and I are always always laughing and a memorable moment
was recently we couldn’t stop laughing for about ten minutes. Every
time I went to apply her lipstick we laughed even harder. Not sure the
studio was happy being held up :-/
What are some of the challenges facing men/women in the makeup industry?
I find people have an image in their mind of how they want to look, and I have to try and translate that onto their faces. This can be difficult as someone’s idea of a “smokey” eye can be different to mine and so I’ve learned that conversation is key and you can never have enough reference To work from.
What does it take to be successful in your industry?
Hard work. Determination . I am not just an artist, I am my own PR, PA, agent, manager and so this job takes a lot of patience and positivity, but I wouldn’t have it any other way!
What are you favourite cosmetics and what makeup brushes do you currently use?
